Metformin is a type of medication that does not get processed by the liver and it is not affected by the food that you eat. First it increases the release of insulin by the pancreas, secondly it decreases the production of sugar by the liver, thirdly it lessens the absorption of sugar by the intestines and lastly it ensures that the fat cells and muscles respond to insulin and that it efficiently takes the needed sugar.

Metformin is usually available in tablet form and it is normally referred to as Glucophage, Glucophage CR or fortamet. This medication can be used as a means of prevention from the acquisition of type 2 diabetes for the people with the high risk of acquiring it.
